About Dr. Larry Lachman
Dr. Larry Lachman is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Animal Behavior Consultant, Assistant Professor of Psychology, radio talk show host, cable television host and a published author of four books.
Dr. Lachman has worked with domestic dogs, cats and birds since 1988 and has counseled peoplefirst as a hospice team member and then as a counselor traineesince 1981.
Dr. Lachman is the author of Dogs on the Couch (published by Overlook Press 1999, 2002), Cats on the Counter (published by St. Martin’s Press, 2000), Birds off the Perch (published by Simon & Schuster, 2003) and Parallel Journeys-A Spirited Approach to Coping and Living with Cancer (published by Sun Ink Presentations, 2003). Dr. Lachman is the former radio host of "The Family Animal Show," on KAZU-FM, Pacific Grove, California. Dr. Lachman has appeared on The Fox News Channel, WPIX-TV New York, WGN-TV Chicago, KRON-TV San Francisco as well as the Ronn Owen’s Show on KGO Radio, also in San Francisco.
Dr. Lachman has led weekly cancer therapy groups for people with cancer, weekly bereavement therapy groups for those who lost a family member due to cancer, as well as mandatory anger-management groups and voluntary Lupus and pain management groups.
Dr. Lachman himself is a cancer survivor with having been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1997 as well as previously hosting a twice monthly coping with cancer cable television show on Access Monterey Peninsula in Monterey, California, called, "Living Options: Coping With Cancer On The Central Coast."
Dr. Lachman began working with terminally ill cancer patients in 1981 as member of a hospice treatment team in Whittier, California, and since that time, has also worked with lupus patients at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, California, and AIDS patients at the AIDS Foundation of Orange County.
Dr. Lachman is the "Wholistic News and Reviews" columnist for the on-line "International Journal of Healing and Caring," edited by psychiatrist Daniel Benor, M.D. and has been an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Chapman University’s Monterey Campus as well as an Adjunct Psychology Instructor at the San Diego campus. Dr. Lachman has also been an adjunct instructor at the University of La Verne, Alliant International University, Argosy University, Hartnell Community College, and the Monterey Peninsula College.
Dr. Lachman is a past member of the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, the Animal Behavior Society, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the American Society of Psychosocial and Behavioral Oncology/AIDS.
